The vehicle is equipped with a diesel-battery hybrid power system and has been developed to meet the technical requirements for operation in temperatures down to -50°C.

CRRC Ziyang has completed production of a CKD6H hybrid locomotive designed for operation in extreme cold conditions, with delivery to Kazakhstan scheduled for June 2025.

The locomotive integrates a hybrid configuration consisting of a conventional diesel engine supplemented by an onboard battery system. According to data released by the manufacturer, this setup enables a reduction in fuel consumption by up to 45% and decreases noise emissions by approximately 80%. The expected annual reduction in CO₂ output is stated to be around 240 tonnes.

Designed specifically for operation in Kazakhstan, the locomotive has been adapted for the region’s climate and technical standards. The vehicle reportedly complies with the EAC (Eurasian Conformity) certification, using Chinese technical norms. This deployment represents the first instance of Chinese standards being applied within the EAC framework.
