According to the ministry, physical progress on the first TÜRASAŞ train set has reached 90%. The first set is planned to be placed on the network in 2026, when testing activities are due to begin. The production programme covers a total of 15 train sets, including one prototype, with manufacturing planned between 2026 and 2028.
The train sets are arranged in eight-car formations with aluminium car bodies and a total passenger capacity of 577. Interior installation works on the first set are nearing completion, with finishing activities currently underway.
The technical configuration includes a train control and monitoring system, automatic train stopping, electromechanical passenger access doors, fully automatic air-conditioning, fire detection, audio and visual passenger information systems, and onboard camera systems. Passenger facilities are planned to include wireless internet access, vending machines, and a kitchen area.
Accessibility provisions include two passenger compartments dedicated to persons with reduced mobility, along with lifting systems allowing wheelchair users to board and disembark at platform level.
The ministry stated that 31 high-speed train sets are currently in operation on Türkiye’s high-speed rail network. With the completion of the current programme, the number of domestically manufactured high-speed trains would represent close to half of the existing fleet in service.
