The project, backed by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, covers both electric and diesel electric versions and is positioned as a step beyond the current E 5000 platform.

Türkiye’s state-owned rolling stock manufacturer TÜRASAŞ is developing a new six‑axle locomotive for mainline use.

The electric version of the new locomotive is planned to reach an output of 7.2 megawatts (MW), which is around 50% more powerful than TÜRASAŞ’s existing four‑axle E‑5000 locomotive, rated at 5 MW. It will be the first domestically produced six‑axle electric locomotive in Türkiye.

The diesel‑electric variant is designed for an output of approximately 3,750 horsepower. TÜRASAŞ has adopted a modular architecture across both variants, enabling shared use of bogie and chassis components. This setup is intended to streamline production processes and reduce the diversity of spare parts.

According to the ministry, the project incorporates experience from the E‑5000 development programme and is being led entirely within Türkiye. The concept and preliminary design phases have been completed, with the locomotive expected to expand the capabilities of the country’s national fleet.
