The modular composition allows selection of single-deck only or a combination of single- and double-deck coaches.

Škoda Group is preparing its 22Ev electric multiple unit (EMU), designed as a high-capacity solution for regional and suburban services. The single-deck unit will offer flexibility in composition, with configurations ranging from four to six cars, a total length between 106 and 160 metres, and seating capacity varying from 380 to 600 passengers.

The 22Ev unit is built to operate on a standard track gauge of 1,435 mm and will support multiple electrification systems, including 3 kV DC, 25 kV AC, and 15 kV AC – opening the possibilities on the markets in western Europe.

The unit will be equipped with eight traction motors delivering 500 kW each, providing a total power output of 4 MW and a maximum operating speed of 160 km/h.

The interior layout will include multifunctional zones suitable for carrying bicycles, prams, or larger baggage, reflecting a focus on regional commuter needs. Boarding is facilitated by entrance heights of either 580 mm or 760 mm and doors with a width of 1,300 mm.

The unit will meet the latest European TSI standards: LOC&PAS, Noise, Safety in Railway Tunnels (SRT), Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRM), and Control-Command and Signalling (CCS). It supports ETCS Level 2 and includes an ATO (Automatic Train Operation) system running over ETCS. Diagnostic features include remote data transfer and predictive maintenance functions.

Škoda also highlights reduced energy consumption, which the manufacturer attributes to the unit’s lower weight, an intelligent parking mode, and the integrated ATO functionality.
