Rail Cargo Hungaria (RCH) has expanded its traction capabilities with the addition of two modernised M62 locomotives. The locomotives were refurbished by DLRR, a locomotive manufacturing and maintenance firm, to meet Hungarian operational specifications and company requirements.
Locomotives allocated to nuclear power plant project and other heavy transport tasks
Both diesel units are being deployed for assignments requiring higher haulage capacity. One locomotive is already operating in Dunaújváros as part of preparations related to the Paks II. nuclear power project. The second locomotive is currently engaged in service between Ferencváros and Soroksár, rerouting container traffic and replacing other diesel traction during ongoing track closures. This includes covering services typically handled by MÁV’s passenger division.
After completing the required test runs and acceptance procedures, Rail Cargo Hungaria officially took over the units for its own use in May.
Diesel fleet now totals 26 diesel locomotives
With the integration of the refurbished M62s, RCH’s diesel fleet now comprises 26 locomotives. The new units operate alongside other diesel traction types already in service, including models such as Siemenr ER20, former Rail Cargo Austria Class 2068 locomotives, CRRC’s Grasshopper, and Alstom Traxx diesel locomotives leased from Akiem. This pool supports RCH’s domestic operations and high-volume transport demands.
