The order increases the company’s Siemens-built fleet to 106 locomotives, consisting of 88 Vectrons and 18 Smartrons. Ceremonial signatures of the contract were signed during 2025 transport logistic fair in Munich.
Twelve of the newly ordered locomotives fall under a framework agreement signed in February 2024, while the remaining ten will be co-financed through Poland’s National Reconstruction Program, administered by the Center for EU Transport Projects. This means that for several first years of their deployment, they will have to be used for intermodal traffic.
The multisystem Vectron locomotives are expected to enter service between 2025 and 2026. Technical specifications include 6.4 MW power in AC mode and 6.0 MW in DC mode. All units will feature ETCS Baseline 3 and are intended for cross-border operations across a range of European countries, including Poland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, the Netherlands, Romania, and Bulgaria.
This order brings CARGOUNIT’s total commitments with Siemens Mobility to over one hundred locomotives. The Polish rolling stock leasing company, which began its cooperation with Siemens in 2018, may extend its Siemens fleet to over 150 locomotives depending on the full use of options in the existing agreement.
CARGOUNIT is currently the largest private rolling stock leasing company in Central and Eastern Europe and the largest owner of Siemens-built locomotives in Poland. Its customer base includes operators active in both freight and passenger transport.
The vehicles will be maintained under Siemens’ service network, which includes facilities in Poland.
