Koleje Mazowieckie, the Polish regional transport operator, has placed an order with Stadler for up to 50 state-of-the-art FLIRT electric multiple-unit trains to be used on routes from Warsaw to cities and towns in Mazovia.

The framework agreement signed in Warsaw also covers the maintenance of the delivered fleet. The value of the contract, including maintenance, amounts to approximately €750 million and will be co-financed by EU funds. Together with the framework agreement, the first two executive contracts were also signed, marking the start of the project to build the first 25 new FLIRT trains for Masovia.

Robert Stępień, President of the Management Board and General Director of Koleje Mazowieckie, says: "The order will be executed at Stadler Polska's plant in Siedlce. In recent years, FLIRT vehicles have become an integral part of the landscape in Mazowieckie.

The cooperation between Koleje Mazowieckie and Stadler started in 2006, when Stadler received its first order for the delivery of 14 FLIRT trains (10 for Masovia and 4 for Silesia) for Poland. As a result, Stadler opened a production plant in Siedlce for the manufacture of these trains. The partnership with the regional transport company, which is owned by the local government of the Masovia region, is a continuation of another framework agreement signed in 2018, under which the Siedlce plant will manufacture and deliver 61 latest-generation FLIRT trains between 2020 and 2023.

"Stadler's operations in Poland were launched thanks to the first order for Masovia and Silesia. Subsequent orders allowed us to expand our production activities in Siedlce and to further develop our partnership with local suppliers," explains Philipp Brunner, Member of the Management Board and Executive Vice President of the Central Europe Division at Stadler.

Under the agreement, Koleje Mazowieckie will expand its fleet by 50 additional five-car FLIRTs. In total, the framework agreement provides for four successive contracts (for the purchase of 14, 11, 14 and 11 units respectively) and their maintenance for a period of 18 years. The vehicles ordered today under the first two executive contracts are scheduled for delivery within 24 months of signing.

The FLIRT is Stadler's best-selling model, with more than 2600 units sold in 23 countries. The fleet of Koleje Mazowieckie includes a total of 71 FLIRTs: 10 four-car units and 61 five-car units, representing over 21% of the total fleet. All of them were built at the Stadler Polska plant in Siedlce.
