The Serbian transport minister signed an agreement with the biggest rolling stock manufacturer in the world, CRRC, to deliver five high-speed trains.

The Serbian Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure is keen on more contracts with China. As signed recently, more highways will be built, but railways are also part of the new deal. Chinese contractors are currently building the Belgrade – Budapest railway line, which is over 340 km long, and after its finish, it will shorten travel times between two capitals from eight to three hours.

But, to achieve that, proper rolling stock will be needed. CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co should be the supplier of choice for five new trains reaching a maximum speed of 200 km/h on this line. The 54 million euro contract should be fulfilled so that new trains start operation as early as 2025. CRRC promised that the new four-car trainsets will be TSI compliant.
