The new workshop is located near Offenburg station in the north-east of the city. The 1,350 m2 depot includes two pit tracks, roof work stands and a full-length gantry crane. Two outbuildings of 350 m2 and 200 m2 provide space for storage, offices and social facilities.
Johannes Emmelheinz, CEO Customer Services at Siemens Mobility, explains: "The completion of the new facility lays the foundation for the operation of our first battery-powered train fleet in Germany, which will provide climate-friendly, local, emission-free passenger transport."
The depot will be used for the maintenance of the Siemens Mireo Plus B battery-powered trains, which are expected to enter service on Line 8 "Ortenau" in mid-December 2023 - a first in Germany. SWEG will lease the depot to Siemens Mobility for 30 years from June 2023. The Mireo Plus B also made its first public test run on the line between Offenburg and Gengenbach.
