The five-year contract was awarded at approximately EUR 17m, excluding infrastructure charges.

Leo Express will operate the service between Prague and Munich from 13 December 2026, after winning a Czech Ministry of Transport tender for the cross-border route.

The 439 km route links Prague, Plzeň, Holýšov, Domažlice, Furth im Wald, Schwandorf, Regensburg, Landshut and Freising before terminating in Munich. Leo Express plans to run eight trains per day in a two-hourly interval.

The operator will deploy modernised Talgo Intercity coaches secured through a partnership with Renfe. The formation will be hauled by a multisystem locomotive and designed for a maximum speed of 200 km/h, according to the operator. The coaches will be equipped with air conditioning, Wi-Fi and an onboard audiovisual system. Space will be available for passengers with reduced mobility and for bicycles.

The cross-border section beyond Furth im Wald will be operated in cooperation with a German railway undertaking contracted by Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft (BEG) on behalf of the Free State of Bavaria.
