Two new railway lines are set to be built in the Bratislava region, as the increase in construction in the city and its surroundings has put pressure on residents' mobility.

As a solution to congested road traffic from satellite towns around the capital Bratislava, the Ministry of Transport, the Bratislava Self-Governing Region (BSK), and the Slovak Railways (ŽSR) agreed upon the construction of two new regional railway lines in memorandums of cooperation.

One new railway line will lead from Bratislava - Vajnory (including the renovation of this existing station) via Slovenský Grob to Pezinok and the other from Bratislava - Lamač via Záhorská Bystrica and Stupava to Lozorno.

New electrified railway lines are primarily intended for passenger transport, connecting the centre of Bratislava with cities and towns in the surrounding area that have experienced the most significant population growth over the last decade, as explained by Slovak Minister of Transport, Andrej Doležal.

ŽSR has already begun preparing a feasibility study for both projects, aiming to propose alternative construction solutions and assess their feasibility.
