RegioJet carried almost 9 million passengers by rail in 2024 across international and regional routes in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, and Poland. The growth was driven mainly by international InterCity routes, where demand increased substantially.
Rolling stock investments exceed EUR 320 million
The company is investing approximately EUR 320 million in the expansion and modernisation of its rail fleet. The procurement includes nearly 50 new low-floor electric multiple units:
- 7 PESA Elf.eu trainsets are scheduled to begin operating on Prague’s S49 and S61 city lines from April 2025.
- 23 electric units from Škoda Group are intended for electrified services in the Ústí nad Labem region, with deployment planned for December 2026.
- 18 high-speed electric units from PESA, designed for the R9 line (Prague–Havlíčkův Brod–Jihlava/Brno), with a maximum speed of 200 km/h, are also expected in service by December 2026.
In addition, RegioJet is expanding its locomotive fleet with 13 TRAXX MS3 locomotives from Alstom. Six units were delivered in autumn 2024, while seven more are scheduled for spring 2025. These locomotives are designed to reduce energy consumption by 5–7%.
The company is also investing about EUR 20 million in the refurbishment of existing railcars, including upgrades such as new seating, flooring, lighting, air conditioning, and other interior elements.
New rail services planned in Poland
RegioJet is preparing to launch new domestic passenger rail services in Poland. This follows its existing international connection between Prague and Przemyśl, which also links to cities such as Kraków and Katowice. The domestic expansion is currently in the planning stage.
Contracted public service expansion
Since 2019, RegioJet has participated in public service tenders and secured six contracts to date. Four are in operation, while the remaining two—R9 and electrified routes in the Ústí nad Labem region—are set to launch next year. These public service routes are backed by new rolling stock acquisitions.
The company plans to increase its share in the Czech Republic’s public service rail market to 30–40% within the next five to seven years.
RegioJet was founded in 2009 as a subsidiary of STUDENT AGENCY. Since launching regular rail passenger services in 2011, it has grown to become one of the largest private railway operators in Central Europe, with services spanning several countries.
