Truck collides with passenger train in Croatia – driver dead, train derailed

The accident occurred at approximately 12:01 p.m. at a crossing equipped with active light and sound warning signals.

A freight vehicle collided with a passenger train at a level crossing near Andrijevci railway station on July 1, 2025, Večernji list informs. The impact caused the passenger train to derail. Railway traffic between Andrijevci and Garčin is currently suspended on both tracks while emergency services and railway teams are working on-site.

Casualties and on-site situation  

According to field information, the driver of the truck died at the scene. The train engineer and conductor sustained minor injuries. Out of approximately 30 passengers on board, two requested medical attention.

Police investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident. The accident took place as the passenger train was entering Andrijevci station on the Novska–Tovarnik route.

Operational impact  

Removing the consequences of the derailment and restoring railway traffic is expected to take time. According to available information, the railway-road crossing involved was functioning with active warning systems at the time of the collision.
