The partnership between Polo Logistica and Acqua S. Bernardo targets a shift from road to rail for freight transport, aiming to cut over 2,500 tons of CO2 emissions annually and ease congestion on major Italian highways. The companies share a commitment to local economic development, environmental care, and community well-being.
Commitment to Sustainability
FS Group is striving to achieve Net Zero by 2040 through clean energy production and energy efficiency improvements. Acqua S. Bernardo powers its facilities with clean energy and has adopted sustainable packaging solutions. Rail transport is viewed as the most effective means to meet European Union targets. In 2023, Polo Logistica's integrated logistics system reduced CO2 emissions by 1.5 million tons compared to road transport.
Support from Leadership
Sabrina De Filippis, CEO of Mercitalia Logistics, highlighted the importance of the partnership in promoting an intermodal and sustainable transport network that supports local economies. Antonio Biella, General Manager of S. Bernardo, emphasized the role of rail transport in the company’s ongoing efforts to reduce and offset CO2 emissions through sustainable practices, including the use of recycled materials and careful water resource management.
This new intermodal route represents a step towards achieving broader sustainability goals while enhancing the efficiency of freight transport between Cuneo and Prato.
