The project, called the Blue and Red Lines, aims to connect major Egyptian cities like Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Safaga, and Qena, facilitating both passenger and freight transportation.

Egis announced that it has won a contract from the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) to oversee two new electric high-speed rail (HSR) lines in Egypt. The project will be carried out in a consortium with SYSTRA. It will form part of Egypt's 2,000 km network.

The consortium's scope, covering the Blue and Red Lines totaling 1,325 km and 39 stations, includes design coordination, project management, design review and construction supervision, including the interfaces between the different working groups. Upon completion, this rail network will carry both passengers and freight, connecting Cairo to Abo Simbel via Luxor and Aswan for the Blue Line and Safaga to Qena for the Red Line.

The high-speed rail line is in line with Egypt's 2030 vision, MISR2030, which emphasizes the establishment of a transport system that is an integral part of sustainable development. It also reinforces the role of transport on a regional and international level, supporting the country's future economic and social needs.

“We are honored to contribute to the realization of Egypt’s 2030 vision ‘MISR2030’ through our involvement in this high-speed rail project for the National Authority for Tunnels in addition to the various projects in Egypt we are supporting, across multiple disciplines,” said Mohammad Ben Messaoud, Country Managing Director, Egis in Egypt.
