The inaugural dispatch of an export train carrying 3,000 tonnes of flour, oilseeds, and 2,000 tonnes of consumer goods marks a new chapter in bilateral trade.

On 24 August 2023, Kedentransservice JSC, a subsidiary of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), dispatched the first train loaded with Kazakh export cargo from Kostanai railway station to Tajikistan. The dispatched train carried a cargo of over 3,000 tonnes of flour and oilseeds and 2,000 tonnes of consumer goods on its journey to Tajikistan.

Trade turnover between the two countries reached USD 1.4 billion in 2022. The combined volume of cargo transported by rail between the countries exceeded 4 million tonnes in 2022. In the first seven months of 2023, this volume increased to around 2.7 million tonnes, a 17% increase compared to the same period in 2022.

With the continued growth of rail traffic between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, an initiative is underway to establish a joint venture by creating a transport and distribution hub at Khatlon station in Tajikistan. This project aims to strengthen food security and provide a storage and trading platform for exporters of agricultural products.
