The support aims to keep single wagonload traffic on Hungarian railways. Although this form of rail freight is not profitable on a market basis, it is claimed to be helpful on a national economic level.

An initiative that the Hungarian Railway Association HUNGRAIL launched kept 7.2 million tons of goods on railways in Hungary in 2021 and 2022. This saved 400,000 truck journeys on Hungarian roads. The scheme was expected to continue in 2023, but only on 14 August 2023 the Hungarian government, with approval from European Commission, allocated additional funds for the support schemes.

The Ministry of Energy provides the program, with the Ministry of Construction and Transport as a supporter. MÁV disburses the awarded amount as a further support organisation. In 2021, the support reached EUR 4.9 million; in 2022, it was almost EUR 16.3 million. This year, the ministry provides record funding.

During previous years, the support was provided to Rail Cargo Hungaria, GYSEV Cargo, CER Hungary, Eurogate Rail Hungary, MMV, Train Hungary or Kárpát Vasút.
