The acquisition will allow CFI to expand its presence along the Adriatic axis and strengthen its intermodal capabilities.

CFI - Compagnia Ferroviaria Italiana, an Italian rail and intermodal transport company, has announced the acquisition of a majority stake in Lotras Srl. Lotras is active in the road-rail transport of liquid food products and container transfers in Italy and operates the largest fleet of tank wagons in the country. Under the terms of the acquisition, CFI will acquire 90% of the capital of Lotras, with the remaining 10% remaining with the De Girolamo family, the historical owners of the company. The transaction is expected to be completed in the third quarter of this year.

With the acquisition of Lotras, CFI aims to strengthen its presence along the Adriatic axis and expand its intermodal transport capabilities. The acquisition will give CFI access to additional terminal infrastructure that is crucial for the development of intermodal transport, such as the ASI-Incoronata terminal in Foggia, in addition to its existing management of the Fiorenzuola d'Arda and Piedimonte San Germano terminals. The integration of Lotras into the CFI organization will facilitate the realization of synergies with other logistics sectors within F2i SGR's portfolio, including port and airport terminals.

Giacomo Di Patrizi, CEO of CFI, expressed his satisfaction with the acquisition, stating that it strengthens CFI's position as the independent rail operator in Italy. “The entry of a historic, important company with an experienced and capable management such as Lotras into our organisation will allow us to further develop our network, in particular the connections between Southern Italy, the rest of the country and Europe. This acquisition is consistent with F2i's investment philosophy, which is aimed at fostering the growth of the companies in its portfolio, also by external lines, with the objective of promoting the creation of national champions,” explained Di Patrizi.

The acquisition of Lotras is an important step for CFI to expand its capabilities and network reach, and to strengthen its position in the Italian rail and intermodal transport sector.
