The special wagons were developed by RCG in cooperation with the Rohrdorfer Group and Innofreight in order to transport more freight with fewer journeys.
From May, the new 20 InnoWagons with 40 RockTainer SAND containers will be used in the Ebensee Gmunden transports. In total, around 450,000 tonnes of limestone will be transported in each transport period. This equates to 36,000 truck journeys that can be saved every year thanks to the environmentally friendly rail transport.
With the RockTainer SAND, 804 tonnes of raw material can now be transported per train instead of the previous 630 tonnes. Each Inno wagon can carry a maximum of 134 tonnes. This saves a total of 160 train journeys per year.
The RockTainer SAND will be transported by new hybrid locomotives from Stern & Hafferl Verkehr. The so-called "Vectron Dual Mode" not only saves 53% of the maintenance and energy costs per year when using the catenary, but also several tonnes of CO2 compared to the diesel locomotive previously used, as approx. 80% of the diesel is saved.
