In a step to make its fleet more efficient in an affordable way, G&W will purchase 69 locomotives from Wabtec’s Certified Pre-Owned program for Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad; Chicago, Ft. Wayne & Eastern Railroad; Connecticut Southern Railroad; Indiana & Ohio Railway; New England Central Railroad and Providence and Worcester Railroad.
Wabtec’s second-hand locomotives have original design specifications, maintenance records and operational histories. The company upgrades and certifies the locomotives through a 275-point inspection process to ensure each is roadworthy and meets its standards. The deal also includes an extended warranty to provide reliable service in the future. Locomotives will start being delivered immediately, and they should all reach their destination railroad by the end of the year. With these locomotives, the fleet of Wabtec locomotives at G&W will exceed 100. To date, Wabtec has sold over 210 locomotives to 8 different customers through its certified pre-owned program.
G&W’s North American operations include 110 short lines and regional railroads in the US and Canada. In Europe, the company owns the Freightliner brand, operating in the UK, Poland, and Germany.
