The service resumed on 9 February 2026 and is operated with one weekly round trip.

Captrain Italia, Captrain Deutschland and BLS Cargo have relaunched a cross-border rail freight service transporting clay from Limburg in Germany to Modena in northern Italy.

The traffic originates at the Rail&Sea Logistics Group terminal in Limburg and runs through Germany, Switzerland and Italy, crossing the borders at Basel and Domodossola. The end customer for the service is the Etea Group.

Captrain Italia acts as the lead carrier and operates the Italian section between Modena and Domodossola. BLS Cargo is responsible for traction through Switzerland, while Captrain Deutschland-Group handles operations in Germany. BLS Cargo locomotives are deployed between Limburg and Domodossola.

The trains use open-top containers, allowing the equipment to be reloaded in Italy with other goods for the return leg. This bidirectional use supports higher asset utilisation and underpins the intermodal concept of the service.
