This volume transported by LTG Cargo surpasses last year’s August total by approximately 100,000 tonnes, or 22 percent. The grain season began one month later than in 2024, requiring increased transport intensity over a shorter period.
The freight carrier allocated around 1,600 wagons for this year’s grain campaign; a 33 percent increase compared to last year. This includes 500 newly acquired grain wagons, introduced to meet higher seasonal demand from grain producers and processors. According to LTG Cargo, the majority—around 90 percent—of the grain shipments are routed to the port of Klaipėda for export.
Grain made up about 16 percent of all freight volumes handled by LTG Cargo in 2024. Last year, the company moved 270,000 tonnes of grain in July, reaching 460,000 tonnes in August.
In addition to grain transport wagons, LTG Cargo has recently procured 200 gondola wagons intended for use in crushed stone and bulk cargo shipments. These are designed for weather-resistant materials such as those needed in construction and rail infrastructure projects, including work on the European-gauge Rail Baltica corridor. The company estimates these gondolas will support the transport of up to 700,000 tonnes of additional cargo annually.
LTG Cargo operates as part of the LTG Group and offers a range of services including rail freight, intermodal transport, cargo handling, and rolling stock maintenance. Its operations extend into Poland and Ukraine through its subsidiaries LTG Cargo Polska and LTG Cargo Ukraine.
