The newly built intermodal terminal in Ústí nad Labem is positioning itself as a strategic freight hub connecting the Czech Republic with major European markets. With rail and road connections to ports, industrial zones and foreign logistics networks, the site offers immediate handling capacity for containers, palletised cargo and specialised shipments.
MIB Logistics, which operates in the Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and the Benelux region, views the northern Bohemian city as a natural crossroads for intermodal growth. “The location and access to main corridors allow us to offer flexible, lower-emission transport solutions,” said company director Pavel Králík.
The firm also highlights the growing role of rail in waste logistics, from municipal refuse to industrial recyclables, as European Union policy tightens CO₂ limits and promotes the shift of freight from road to rail. According to industry figures, transporting waste by rail can reduce emissions by up to 70% compared to trucks, while alleviating pressure on the road network.
In practice, this means fewer lorries on motorways, quicker turnaround times at collection sites and the option of combining rail with last-mile road delivery. MIB Logistics says its digital planning systems optimise routes and speed up response times.
With EU recycling targets increasing and intermodal infrastructure expanding, operators expect rail’s role in transporting waste and general cargo to grow, with hubs such as Ústí nad Labem helping to move goods and materials efficiently across Europe.
