In July 2025, DB Cargo Polska successfully completed a complex delivery of 120-metre rails from Chorzów, Poland, to Zittau in Saxony. Despite the absence of a direct rail link to the destination, the project was successfully completed thanks to meticulous planning and effective international coordination.
The rails were destined for a modernised section of Poland's Line 346, which at the time was isolated from the rest of the Polish railway network. In the absence of a regular rail connection, the transport route had to be somewhat unconventional. It involved crossing into German territory and then returning to reach the site in Zittau.
"This was no standard delivery," the company stated. "We were able to successfully implement this project due to our team's creativity, experience and ability to collaborate across borders."
To navigate the cross-border route, coordination was required between DB Cargo Polska and DB Cargo Germany. The 120-metre rails were loaded onto specialised freight wagons and delivered directly to the designated unloading point near the construction zone.
In light of ongoing infrastructure work on Line 346, comprehensive plans have been devised to ensure the seamless transportation of goods, despite the current limitations in track connectivity.
