TRANSWAGGON is providing dedicated Habbiins wagons equipped with customised racks for battery modules, delivering block train capacity for several automotive manufacturers across Europe.
Block train in place of 50 trucks
A single Habbiins wagon with a 64-tonne load limit replaces roughly 2.5 full 40-tonne trucks. Operating 20 wagons in a single block train enables the equivalent of 50 truckloads to move in one rail convoy. In terms of emissions, the transport of batteries by rail reduces CO₂ output to around one-eighth of what is generated by the equivalent diesel truck traffic.
The wagons’ interior racks are customised to meet manufacturer-specific safety and handling requirements for lithium-ion battery modules and components. These containers remain within the closed structure of the sliding-wall wagons throughout transit.
Onboard monitoring and digital support
Each wagon is equipped with Freight Buddy® sensors, providing real-time GPS tracking and data on temperature and shock levels during transport. This monitoring setup is designed to comply with safety standards for dangerous goods while offering transparency across the supply chain.
The shift to rail transport is also being positioned as a solution to staffing pressures in the road haulage sector. While 50 truck journeys require 50 certified drivers trained in hazardous materials handling, a block train moves the same load with one locomotive and one driver.
