Containerised high-voltage transformers were transported by rail from CSP Spain's terminal in Bilbao to Coslada, demonstrating the compatibility of oversized technical equipment with standard intermodal transport.
Once unloaded at the terminal, the containerised transformers were transferred onto rail wagons without requiring special load securing outside the intermodal framework. The format allows the transformers—designed to convert 400–480 V generator outputs to voltages up to 23 kV—to be handled using standard crane equipment, following the same logistics procedures as conventional container freight.
The delivery was bound for Alayan in Madrid, a company offering rental solutions across various industrial sectors. The rail leg terminated at Coslada, near Madrid, where the cargo continued by road to its final destination.
The transport reflects growing use of intermodal rail to carry non-standard cargo typically requiring special treatment. With containerisation, these units can be integrated into regular intermodal supply chains, allowing access to the same infrastructure used for general cargo. The rail segment offered a direct inland connection from the Atlantic coast to central Spain without requiring custom loading solutions.
