Railcare has started transporting approximately 72,000 railway sleepers for track renewal on Sweden’s Malmbanan Line. The operation, carried out for the infrastructure contractor InfraKraft, will supply sleepers for the ongoing track replacement project planned for the upcoming summer period.
Approximately half of the sleepers, sourced from Långviksmon, will be moved to Kiruna, while the remaining sleepers from Långsele will be delivered to the depot at Luleå. Transport operations will involve a leased Nordic Re-Finance RC-series locomotive coupled with 14 RS wagons.
Following delivery to the designated storage sites, track replacement work will begin. Railcare will also provide traction services during the track replacement activities, continuing to manage railway logistics throughout the project's execution.
Malmbanan Line, known primarily as a vital freight route connecting key industrial areas, is undergoing extensive track replacement to maintain reliability and accommodate future traffic demands. This current sleeper transport phase forms part of broader infrastructure works scheduled for the Malmbanan Line. Track renewal will proceed this summer on the section between Håmojåkk and Riksgränsen.
