LTG Cargo organized the first rail shipment from Austria to Lithuania: more than 600 tons of new European gauge rails were transported to Šeštokai. The transport from Leoben Donawitz via Austria and the Czech Republic was handled by partner Rail Cargo Group. The longest part of the journey - via Poland - was handled by LTG Cargo's Polish subsidiary LTG Cargo Polska.
"LTG Cargo is further expanding its route geography in the West. The demand for rails in Lithuania will grow both due to repairs and the strategic Rail Baltica project, so our goal is to offer competitive, reliable and sustainable transport solutions from European countries via Poland and within the country," said Eglė Šimė, CEO at LTG Cargo.
The train consisted of 25 wagons and carried 642 tonnes of rails. The rails will be used by LTG Infra, the rail infrastructure network operator of the LTG Group, for maintenance and repair work. The rails would be sufficient for the construction of a railway section of almost 10 kilometres, and will be used for maintenance and repair work. LTG Cargo will transport the rails from Šeštokai to LTG Infra's long rail production facility in Šilėnai, Šiauliai region.
