SBB Cargo and Swiss Post have extended their long-standing collaboration by two years, continuing their partnership until the end of 2028.
Operating on 84 train routes daily, SBB Cargo transports letters and packages across the country. This method is both logistically efficient and environmentally friendly, saving approximately 10,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually compared to road transport.
In 2022, Swiss Post launched a "rail offensive" in cooperation with SBB Cargo to increase the proportion of parcels moved by rail. Throughout 2023, several new daily train connections were introduced, resulting in around 9 million additional parcels being shifted from road to rail each year. This shift reduces CO₂ emissions by approximately 1,000 tonnes annually.
The upward trend is expected to continue, with projections indicating a 15 percent increase in rail-transported parcels in 2024 compared to the previous year. This initiative supports Swiss Post's goal of achieving complete climate neutrality in its operations by 2030 and making its entire value chain climate-neutral by 2040.
