Expansion of the the logistics solutions available for transporting sawn timber and other goods.

This collaboration enables Olmar HaminaKotka, a key port operator, to provide end-to-end logistics services, incorporating storage, cargo handling, and forwarding options from production facilities directly to port.

Since the collaboration began in 2017, Olmar has utilized Fenniarail to streamline transport from production sites, such as Kuhmo Oy, to the HaminaKotka port. With no direct rail link to Kuhmo, Olmar established an inland terminal in Nurmes, creating a critical point for transshipment to rail. This approach aims to provide an environmentally conscious alternative to road transport by shifting part of the load to rail, aligning with sustainability goals.

In early 2022, Olmar expanded its rail operations to include regular shipments for Versowood from Hankasalmi to Hamina. Currently, Olmar HaminaKotka operates three train departures monthly, with plans to gradually increase service frequency in line with anticipated investments in additional locomotives and wagons.

Fenniarail has also introduced new rolling stock, including spacious sawnwood wagons, specifically designed to improve cargo efficiency. The addition of a Vectron electric locomotive allows Fenniarail to utilize electrified tracks, supporting a more energy-efficient transport solution on select routes.
