Australia’s largest rail freight operator, Aurizon, is handling the haulage under a 10-year contract, supporting Gold Valley's ongoing operations in the region.
This initial transport delivered over 8,000 tonnes of iron ore, with Aurizon planning to increase to full-capacity runs in the coming weeks. The full-capacity services will involve 160-wagon trains, each carrying approximately 12,000 tonnes of iron ore per trip. Aurizon’s existing infrastructure and added terminal facilities were mobilized quickly to meet the operational needs of Gold Valley’s Wiluna West project.
Gold Valley acquired the Wiluna West project in 2024 and has been managing operations since 2022. The project, located in Western Australia, represents a direct shipping ore operation, resourced of 130.3 million tonnes at an average grade of 60% iron. The company’s portfolio includes assets across iron ore, copper, and gold, with a focus on Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
Aurizon manages over 250 million tonnes of Australian commodities annually and operates a broad national network linking Australia’s mining regions with key domestic and international markets. The rail operator's partnership with Gold Valley in this project adds to its footprint in Western Australia.
