A new transshipment terminal has started operations in Falköping, positioned within the Skaraborg Logistic Center. The Falköping terminal, owned by Jula Logistics and operated by XR Solutions, has been designed with a focus on sustainability.
Classified as a green building, the terminal meets stringent environmental standards and supports the ongoing shift towards greener logistics practices. The facility’s track infrastructure, built to meet modern requirements, allows for the efficient loading and unloading of trains, which carry products primarily from the forest industry.
SCA Logistics will continue to operate three weekly trains from its paper mills in Munksund and Obbola, transporting Kraftliner to southern Scandinavia. The return journeys will see these trains carrying recycled fiber back to the mills. The new terminal is expected to provide shorter lead times and quicker deliveries, leveraging its strategic location and enhanced infrastructure.
The relocation to Falköping comes after the need to repurpose the Skövde site for urban development. Despite the shift, the proximity of Falköping, just 30 kilometers from Skövde, ensures that the logistical advantages remain intact, with the added benefits of a facility tailored to current operational needs.
In addition to the terminal's green credentials, all handling for SCA Logistics at the site will be conducted using electric vehicles powered by green electricity. Road transport connected to the terminal will utilize vehicles running on liquid biogas (LBG), further reinforcing the sustainable logistics chain.
The collaboration between XR Solutions and SCA Logistics will continue seamlessly at the new location. XR Solutions brings its extensive experience in handling forest industry products, ensuring high efficiency in operations. The new terminal features 500 meters of covered railway tracks, allowing for comprehensive cargo handling under optimal conditions, particularly for large and heavy units typical of the paper and timber industries.
The establishment of the Falköping terminal also opens up new logistical possibilities, particularly with its connection to the Port of Gothenburg. The regular service between Falköping and the port, Scandinavia’s largest, is expected to enhance opportunities for future exports and imports.
