The operator's recent activities include transporting over 1 million tonnes of grain during the Ukraine conflict, organizing humanitarian aid trains to Turkey after the 2023 earthquake, and handling special military transports. These operations underscore the importance of having a national rail freight operator capable of responding to exceptional situations while capitalizing on market opportunities.
CFR Marfă is also actively involved in the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TMTM), which is of strategic importance for both the company and Romania. A recent cooperation agreement with Kazakhstan's KTZ Express aims to enhance rail freight traffic between the two countries.
Key to CFR Marfă's recovery has been diversifying transport services, digitizing processes, and controlling costs. The company’s market share increased from 21.56% in 2020 to 31.2% in 2023. Financial performance has improved, with 2023 revenues reaching approximately EUR 155 million and an operational result of around EUR 22 million. The first five months of 2024 have also shown a positive operational outcome.
