Since May 2019, CFL Intermodal, a subsidiary of the CFL Multimodal group, has been operating a weekly block train service transporting cement tanks from Esch-sur-Alzette to Valenton, near Paris. This service, managed by CFL Cargo, has played a key role in the construction of various Olympic venues, including sections of the Paris metro and the Adidas Arena.
From Valenton, the cement is transported by truck to various construction sites, a process that has significantly reduced CO2 emissions by 14,500 tons. This shift from road to rail transport has also helped avoid potential traffic jams and delays, demonstrating the efficiency of this sustainable transport solution.
The newly constructed eco-designed Adidas Arena, with a capacity of 8,000 spectators, is located in La Chapelle, in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. Since its inauguration in February 2024, the arena has been hosting cultural and sporting events, including home games for the Paris Basketball Team. This venue is set to play a central role during the 2024 Olympic Games and in the daily lives of Paris residents.
By contributing to the construction of the Adidas Arena and other Olympic infrastructure, CFL Multimodal and Cimalux have shown an example of sustainable transport in large-scale projects, for inspiration for future initiatives that prioritize ecological responsibility.
