The ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) will increase the frequency of its TransFER service between Villach and Frosinone in response to growing customer demand, especially from the waste management sector. Initially launched in 2023 with one monthly return trip as part of the wider TransFER Villach-Italy offer, the service has quickly seen an increase in demand, prompting RCG to double the frequency to two return trips per month. With continued growth, there are plans to increase this to four round trips per month, effectively making the service weekly.
As well as meeting the growing needs of the waste management industry, the new service will also support the timber industry by facilitating the movement of conventional wagonload freight. New customers benefiting from this expanded service include EuroTIDECO and FCC Austria Abfall Service AG, part of the international FCC Environment CEE Group, renowned for its comprehensive waste management solutions for municipalities, industry, trade, and private individuals. RCG's commitment to environmentally sustainable practices is underlined by the transport of 1,350 tonnes of waste for these companies using the innovative MOBILER system.
The MOBILER system uniquely combines the environmental benefits of rail with the flexibility of road haulage to provide a seamless multimodal end-to-end logistics solution. This is achieved through a combination of wagons, MOBILER containers, and trucks, facilitated by a hydraulic lifting device that allows quick and easy transfer between truck and wagon without the need for cranes or dedicated rail sidings.
