The new high-speed and regional trains are scheduled for entry into service on the East Coast Line in late 2028 or early 2029.

SJ will increase departures and seating capacity on the East Coast Line between Stockholm, Gävle, Sundsvall and Umeå by 2030, when new high-speed and regional multiple units are scheduled to enter service.

Alstom Avelia Stream (25 + 15 in option) high-speed trains under construction in Germany will replace SJ’s X55 fleet. On the Stockholm–Gävle and Stockholm–Sundsvall routes, daily departures will rise from 12 to 13 in each direction, an 8% increase in frequency, enabling 63% more possible passenger trips due to higher capacity per train.
