The change will speed up rail transit through Ukraine and increase the volume of goods transported.

The Moldovan government has approved a protocol to the agreement between Moldova and Ukraine on the regulation of rail transport.  The protocol aims to simplify the control procedures of customs and border authorities. This should speed up the transit of goods by rail through the territory of Ukraine to Moldova and Romania, and through the territory of Moldova to Ukraine and Romania. The adjustment will also contribute to increasing the volume of goods transported by rail.

"The project introduces changes that will eliminate the control of the Ukrainian customs and border authorities at the Reni railway station. This will reduce the time of the transport of goods to/from the port complex of Giurgiulesti or Romania and will have a positive impact on the final value of goods exported/imported to the recipients from the Republic of Moldova, thus reducing transport costs," said Lilia Dabija, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development.

At the same time, it is expected to shift freight from road to rail. This will reduce the burden on national roads, increasing the volume of transit freight through the territory of the Republic of Moldova and positively impacting the national economy.
