Kazakhstan: Grain loading up 16% since the beginning of the year

About 5.3 million tonnes of grain were transported on the KTZ network between October 2022 and February 2023.

In the first two months of this year, the volume of grain transported increased by 16% compared to January-February 2022 and amounted to about 2 million tonnes.

Since the beginning of the year, 80% (1.6 million) of the transports have been exports. This figure increased by 13% compared to January-February 2022. Loading of milling products (including flour) increased by 31% and reached 600 thousand tonnes. More than 450 thousand tonnes were loaded for export, an increase of 55% compared to 2022.

The main exporters of domestic agricultural products are the CIS countries. In the two months of 2023, grain exports to Uzbekistan increased by 11%, Tajikistan by 36%, Turkmenistan by 40% and Kyrgyzstan by 18%.

The geography of exports is expanding due to deliveries to Chinese markets. The volume of grain exports to China has quadrupled since the beginning of the year. The main markets for milling products remain the CIS countries, Afghanistan and China. In January-February, exports to Tajikistan increased by 33%, to Afghanistan by 4% and to China by a factor of 5.
