This move comes amid restructuring efforts at PKP CARGO, Poland’s major freight rail operator, which has led to workforce reductions.

POLREGIO has announced plans to employ up to 300 workers from PKP CARGO. The two companies have formalized this initiative through a recently signed Letter of Intent, laying the groundwork for a collaborative effort aimed at addressing employment and operational needs.

POLREGIO, the largest operator in the regional passenger rail sector, will implement this employment support program starting June. The initiative will progressively involve workers from PKP CARGO across various professional groups, including those in traction, maneuvering, technical inspections, and rolling stock maintenance and repairs.

POLREGIO's approach offers these affected employees an opportunity to continue their careers within a stable framework, aligning with their existing skill sets.

POLREGIO’s main shareholder, Agencja Rozwoju Przemysłu, underscores the supportive role of state-backed entities in this transition. The company's initiative reflects a broader commitment to maintaining a robust and adaptable workforce within the railway industry.

Dr. Marcin Wojewódka, acting President of the Management Board at PKP CARGO, highlighted that this collaboration aims to provide a secure employment pathway for the company's personnel. This approach seeks to mitigate the impacts of the restructuring and sustain long-term job security for those involved.

Marcin L. Mróz, acting President of POLREGIO SA, echoed these sentiments, indicating that welcoming experienced employees from PKP CARGO aligns with POLREGIO’s growth and operational goals. This transfer of talent is seen as mutually advantageous, enhancing POLREGIO’s service capabilities while offering continuity for the skilled workforce of PKP CARGO.

POLREGIO operates a significant portion of the country's passenger trains. With over 2,000 trains running daily and a robust presence across numerous stations, the company serves millions of passengers annually. Its latest employment initiative further cements its role as a key player in the national transport infrastructure.
