Recently introduced new MS Griffin locomotive from the Polish manufacturer Newag reached 240 km/h on tests.

The locomotive, marked by Newag as GRIFFIN E4MSUa was undergoing tests in Poland and on the night between 19th and 20th October 2023, it reached a new maximum speed record for such type of locomotive in the country. Although Alstom’s Pendolino unit still recorded the fastest record in the country, reaching 293 km/h on tests, this is a significant achievement for the Polish manufacturer.

Newag will deliver 15 of these locomotives to PKP Intercity, and it plans to start next year when full Polish homologation should be reached. Then, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary and Slovakia will be the next targets for Newag’s new locomotive approval for operation.
