The Opole Voivodeship Board has decided to activate an option for eight additional electric multiple units from PESA, expanding a previous order for five trains to 13 vehicles in total.
The original agreement with PESA covered five new EMUs, with an option clause allowing further units at the bid price.
The full 13-train programme is valued at nearly PLN 531m (approximately EUR 122m), of which around PLN 246m (about EUR 57m) is expected to come from external funding.
The fleet will comprise seven three-car EMUs with 178 seats and a total capacity of 378 passengers, and six four-car EMUs offering 227 seats and total capacity for 495 passengers. The units will be PESA’s ELF 3 platform, equipped with passenger information systems, audio-video monitoring, Wi-Fi, induction loops for hearing-impaired passengers, dedicated bicycle areas and spaces for wheelchair users and passengers with larger luggage.
The trains are intended for regional services within the Opole Voivodeship.
