ŁKA receives first of 14 Pesa Elf 3.0 EMUs for Łódź commuter service

The three-car train has arrived in Łódź, with staff training and entry into service scheduled ahead of the June timetable change.

Łódź Agglomeration Railway (ŁKA) has taken delivery of the first of 14 Pesa Elf 3.0 electric multiple units ordered by the Marshal’s Office of the Łódź Voivodeship.

The new EMUs have a maximum speed of 160 km/h and capacity for up to 350 passengers, including 160 seated. They are equipped with air conditioning, onboard ticket machines, passenger information systems, Wi-Fi, power sockets, bicycle spaces and LCD displays. The units are designed to accommodate passengers with reduced mobility.

From mid-June, the additional rolling stock will support new and expanded services. ŁKA will introduce weekday operations between Łódź and Radom, running two train pairs daily. A new Łódź–Płock route via Kutno, Strzelce Kujawskie, Gostynin and Łąck will operate with three daily train pairs.

The timetable update will also include a weekend fast service between Łódź and Warsaw via Zgierz, Głowno, Łowicz and Sochaczew. Additional express services to Łódź are planned from Skierniewice, Drzewica and Sieradz, alongside increased frequencies within the Łódź metropolitan area, including to Zgierz and Pabianice.

The 14-train contract is valued at more than PLN 455m (EUR 105m), with PLN 300m (EUR 69m) provided through funding secured by the regional authority, including support from Poland’s National Recovery Plan.
