PESA has introduced its Gama 3.0 locomotive platform during the TRAKO 2025 trade fair in Gdańsk. The new development expands the existing Gama portfolio with a modular approach allowing for various traction configurations.

The PESA Gama 3.0 platform includes fully electric, dual-power, and hybrid variants. The locomotives are built on a shared technical base with the following features:

– Bo’Bo’ axle configuration – Overall length: 19,750 mm – Tractive effort: 300 kN – Microprocessor-based control system – Onboard diagnostic functions – ETCS integration – Cab equipment includes air conditioning and kettle; toilet available as an option

The electric version supports dual-voltage operation under 3 kV DC and 25 kV AC, offering:

– Power output: 5,600 kW – Top speed: 160 km/h – Last-mile options: battery system or diesel module (HVO-compatible) – Weight: 80 tonnes – Axle load: 22.5 tonnes

The dual-power version combines electric and diesel operation:

– Power in electric mode: 2,800 kW – Power in diesel mode: 2,000 kW – Top speeds: 160 km/h (electric), 120 km/h (diesel) – Weight: 88 tonnes – Axle load: 22 tonnes

The first batch of Gama 3.0 locomotives has been ordered by Rail Capital Partners. The leasing company has contracted five electric locomotives, which are currently in production at PESA’s Bydgoszcz facility. Deliveries are expected in 2026. The order is co-financed under Poland’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
