RS Lease has signed a contract with Romanian manufacturer Softronic Craiova for the delivery of two Transmontana electric locomotives. This is the first time RS Lease expands its leasing portfolio beyond Siemens Vectron MS units.
The new locomotives are scheduled for delivery between April and May 2026. Both will be produced at Softronic’s plant in Craiova. The Transmontana is a six-axle Co′Co′ electric locomotive with a weight of 120 tonnes, maximum speed of 160 km/h, and continuous power output of 6,600 kW. The units are approved for operation in Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Croatia.
This procurement expands the technical variety of RS Lease’s offer, which has so far been built entirely around Siemens' Vectron platform. The decision adds a different traction technology to the company’s leasing options, aimed at customers across Central and Southern Europe.
