The contract covers a period of three years, with an option to extend for another three years.

Železničné opravovne a strojárne Zvolen (ŽOS Zvolen), belonging to the ŽOS Trnava Group in Slovakia secured a contract for the general overhaul of shunting locomotives and traction aggregates from refinery Slovnaft.

Contract details and locomotive types

The agreement includes 20 shunting locomotives from classes 744, 740, and 704, as well as three standalone traction aggregates. The contract was signed by both parties on 27 May 2025 and 10 June 2025. Shortly after, the first locomotive from class 744 was delivered to the workshop for the overhaul process.

Background of the locomotives

The shunting locomotives involved in this contract were previously rebuilt at ŽOS Zvolen. The earlier modernisation replaced the original engines with CAT power units, retaining only the underframe, the main chassis, air reservoirs, and the fuel tanks from the original configuration.

ŽOS Zvolen will now carry out comprehensive maintenance on the same locomotives that were previously modernised at the company’s facility. The upcoming overhauls will extend the operational availability of these locomotives within Slovnaft’s fleet.
