In addition to the current procurement, ADY plans to extend the fleet with an additional order for 14 mainline locomotives.

Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), operating under AZCON Holding, has finalized an agreement with CRRC Ziyang, for the acquisition of seven mainline diesel locomotives along with spare parts. The total contract value amounts to approximately EUR 24.2 million.

The procurement focuses on the AC50 locomotive model, a diesel-electric type equipped with alternating current traction technology. According to available specifications, the AC50 features high tractive effort and increased fuel capacity, with a design tailored for freight operations over long distances. The locomotives comply with UIC Level IIIA emission standards, permitting operation within areas subject to stricter environmental requirements.

Deployment of the new locomotives is planned along the North-South International Transport Corridor, among other routes. The corridor has been experiencing rising volumes of freight transit, prompting further rolling stock investment. The newly ordered batch is part of a broader initiative to increase the resilience of ADY’s locomotive pool and address operational needs on corridors crossing Azerbaijan.
