Two Colmar SL230D diesel-powered rail-road shunters have departed from Italy, destined for the Saudi Arabian railway network. The vehicles, manufactured by SRT at its production site in Fano, Italy, will be utilized by Saudi Railway Company (SAR) for rail logistics operations. SAR has ordered a total of nine units of this specific model, with the first two now en route.

Designed specifically for heavy-duty operations, the Colmar SL230D is intended for use in railway yards, freight terminals, ports, and maintenance facilities. Its high towing capacity allows handling of substantial loads, complemented by specialized tyres optimized for rail traction, offering greater traction capabilities compared to traditional locomotives. Additionally, the shunter’s maneuverability makes it suitable for complex logistics tasks.

SAR plans to deploy these diesel shunters at Al Jubayl, contributing to the ongoing expansion of Saudi Arabia's railway infrastructure. The integration of these units aligns with the broader transportation objectives set by the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 initiative, aiming at improved economic connectivity and operational efficiency across its railway network.

The remaining seven Colmar SL230D units are scheduled for delivery under the same procurement arrangement, with production continuing at SRT’s facility in Italy.
