The company has leased U20C locomotives for freight movements, particularly for copper and other cargo transported from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to the Angolan border.

Traxtion has expanded its operations into Angola, supplying locomotives and personnel under a contract with Lobito Atlantic Railway, the concessionaire managing freight transport along the Lobito Rail Corridor.

Due to infrastructure limitations at the port of Lobito, larger locomotives were unable to operate efficiently. To address this, Traxtion has introduced G18 locomotives for shunting operations, allowing the larger locomotives to focus on long-haul transport while the smaller units handle cargo distribution within the port area.

As part of the contract, Traxtion has supplied two shunting locomotives, which will be maintained by the company. Additionally, conversion training is being provided for the concessionaire’s staff to support operational requirements. The first locomotive is already in service, while the second unit is undergoing modifications at the Rosslyn Rail Hub in Pretoria before delivery.

Angola is the latest addition to Traxtion’s African operations, which now include nine countries. The company continues to manage leasing, maintenance, and staff training services across multiple regions. While its rolling stock remains fully allocated, further developments are expected in line with ongoing rail freight projects.
