Akiem has presented its first Dragon 2 locomotive at the Newag production facility in Nowy Sącz, Poland. The unit is part of a contract signed in November 2023 for the delivery of 30 six-axle electric locomotives in MS and DC versions.
The agreement, which includes maintenance services provided by Newag, is the first cooperation between Akiem and a Polish rolling stock manufacturer. The locomotives are expected to operate in Central Europe, including the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Poland.
Akiem’s decision to procure six-axle locomotives aligns with market demand in the region, where freight operators require traction capable of handling heavy loads. The Dragon 2 series, developed by Newag, features configurations designed to meet different operational requirements.
