At the Herne container terminal in North Rhine-Westphalia, a train collided with several stationary freight wagons. The driver was nearly crushed by the wagons but he jumped off in time.


The serious incident occurred at the Herne container terminal. A 600-meter-long train collided with stationary freight wagons, causing extensive damage.

At around 3 am, an emergency call was received by the fire brigade. When the firefighters arrived on the scene, they found the driver, who was in shock. His life is not in danger and there were no other people on the train.

"The train did not stop because the brakes most likely failed. All indications are that it was a technical error and not a human error. We are very pleased that the driver was not injured." Thorsten Kinhöfer , Managing Director of CTH Container Terminal Herne GmbH.

As a result of the collision, the locomotive and a total of around 20 containers full of goods were destroyed. Thorsten Kinhöfer added that the total damage is in the seven-figure euro range.

.According to the current information, the container port is closed for at least a week. The exact cause of the accident is being investigated.
